I bought an ACTRON CP9175 a while back, used it on numerous vehicles, and never have had any problem with it. I got mine off the web, but they are available at auto parts stores like Pep Boys, Auto Zone, etc. I have an Aero Force Interceptor OBD ll scan gauge permanently installed installed in my Tahoe: last time I threw a code the ACTRON read the exact code as well.

I would think any that can read OBDII codes would be fine. i have never bought one though. i just take mine to AutoZone if theCEL comes on and get them to pull the code for free.

There's like 4 different data communication protocolsunder SAE J1962 (OBD-2).

I bought a really cheap code reader from Harbor Freight ($40). It apparently only reads one type. It works on my 2001 Saab but not on my Hondas (including my former '98 Accord).
