Default finally bought an Accord

I joined a couple years ago when I was getting ready to buy one, but I walked away, i replaced what I thought was a noisy release bearing only to find out it was transmission, so I didnt buy it.

anyway I bought what looks like a nice 1997 with a few issues. car has 260K on body, 127K on engine, new water pump timing belt 6k miles ago. I know it needs a valve adjustment, I can tell by idle. & figure I will replace plugs as well, anything I need to be aware of? should I clean egr ports? i was looking online & saw about how easy, but is it something I need to do? it also has minor exhaust leak, & I need to replace rear door inside handle that I know of.

car has automatic, it shifts harder than I am used to, but what I was reading this is normal? I was looking for a 5 speed, but I got this for a price I couldnt turn down based on condition, owner bought a brand new car.
