As strange as this may sound most dealerships won't give you a better price just because you pay cash instead of financing. Not to mention it's a smarter financial move to finance a car and invest the cash into a CD or similar low risk fund.... As for high turnover new car dealerships (I.E. 150+ cars a month) they really can afford to sell their cars for less money SOMETIMES but not always. It never hurts to shop around. You may also want to ask him but on a lot of those "dealer challenge" programs what it means is that honda will give them a certain amount to sell that car. So the dealership may be getting a $1500.00 refund from Honda as incentive to help them sell it. In that case the sales price he's quoting you is different than what you're paying (if that makes sense). If you are dead serious about the car/deal I'd walk in and tell him $21,500 out the door with the options I want and I'll buy it here on the spot. Be prepaired to buy the car though, if you're just messing around and not serious and don't plan on doing it right then/there then don't bother with that line....

Just out of curiousity how is there nearly $2,000.00 in fees? 8% tax is $1590.00 but where is the other $400? doc fees?
Internet Quote: $19,883
Out-the-Door: $21,843.48

SIDE NOTE: It's an I4 not a V4 that you're looking at.

And avoid lines like "these guys on the internet said....." If you decide to quote something off here I'd say "I was doing some research and noticed that...."

Well what about interest rates... if you had said cash at the time of purchase would it not be smarter to pay in cash if you can't score 0.0% APR? Just curious, I'm only 18 and just go my first monthly payment. Damn new cell phone...

Not usually anymore. And since people are going to argue with me I'll give you an example. Let's say you finance $20,000 at 9% interest over a 72 month (6 year) loan. That's a total interest payment of about $5956 (use a mortgage calculator to see total of interest payments). Now Take that Same $20,000 and put it into a 5% CD (4.9% as noted on bankrate.com) that 5% is compounded either monthly, quarterly or annually (annually pays the least so we'll use that for the example) Now take a calculator: 5% of $20,000 is 1000, so 21,000 (year one), now 5% of 21,000 is 1050 so 22,050 (2yr), 5% of 22,050 is 1102.50 so 23,152 (3yr), 5% of 23,152 is 1157 so 24309 (4yr), 5% of 24309 is 1215.48 so 25524 (5yr), 5% of 25524 is 1276 so 26,800 (6yr). Started with 20,000 ended with 26,800. You made $6,800 in interest on your investment, you paid (if you only paid minimum payments) $5956 in interest on your loan. You made $884.00 in 6yr. if you had 7% interest you pay $4547.00 so you would make $2253.

With this setup you can pay off the loan anytime you like. However, you can't touch the money that you have in the investment account or you won't gain as much. Also, if you get a stupid interest rate of like 15% on your loan then this won't work either (there is a breaking point). So that's the basic long and short... There are exceptions to everything but on average that's one way to make a little extra.
