Intro & looking for problem summary by year
Newbie here.
Previous original owner of a 88 Accord Lxi (manual) that I sadly let get out of both cosmetic and working repair and ended up selling in the summer with around 200k miles on it.
Considering getting a used Accord since currently driving a gas guzzling Surburban (need for occasional towing tent trailer) since selling my 88 and also our first daughter very soon getting learners permit therefore replacement used Accord could be used by daughter in the next year for occasional driving and by myself for transportation to work.
I have tried but been unsuccessful trying to find some kind of Accord model year (or generation) matrix or summary that might outline various problems, issues, tradeoffs, etc. that could be of help to determine what year to pursue (or possibly avoid) buying used. Does anything like this exist?
Any opinion on what might be a good year to by used for a Accord considering my daughter(s) will be driving it (could end up with it); one reason for letting the 88 Accord go was the feeling that it wasn't as safe with no air bag technology?
Thanks for any help and looking forward to learning from and being a member of the forum.

RE: Intro & looking for problem summary by year
I think the 200ish Accords have transmission problems and have a recall possibly....im not sure. Someone with one will let ya know! I have a 97 Accord and havent had any problems with it. I would go to MSN.com and check out the Autos section. There they will have each genereation broken down and you will be able to see problems and such with each. Good luck and thanks for joining!

98-02 Accords with automatic transmissions have around a 50/50 chance the trans will go out. There was a recall or a service bulletin....whatever you want to call it. If the car is 7 years old or less and I think has 100,000 miles or less it is still under warranty for a free trans replacement if any problems.
The only other issue I can think of is the newer models 03-07 brakes (pads and rotors) getting worn out a little faster than most would like them to.

The Accord Wiki article has it broken out pretty well...

As 00Accord said about the trannies on the 98-02 those where the "dark years"
