I just got a 1997 Accord EX for my son. It was one owner and 69,921 miles. The body is in great shape and the 4 cyl engine seems great too.
I was wondering what to expect for mileage. Any info would be appreciated. Sorry if it's posted elsewhere.

We don't know what kind of traffic or hills he's driving thru, and we don't know his driving habits. Don't even know if it's auto or manual tranny. The gas mileage will depend very strongly on that stuff.
But maybe mid-20s or so?? Towards 30 if his right foot has some self-control...

Good choice on the car! I have a 97 as well and got it when I was 16. It had 67,000 miles on it and now has 77k and I havent had any problems with it what so ever even after being in an accident (Wasnt my fault thank goodness). Don;t know if he likes modifying cars but there are alot of things to modify and change on the Accords. On the Highway going 60mph it usually gets around 32mpg for me. In town...not to sure anymore. When I first had it it seemd like my tank never ran empty...now it does quite often. Not sure if its because I take more trips or I drive it a little harder.
Just a quick point
Engine wear is mainly caused by below-normal running temperature and incorrect, or infrequent, servicing. When you start the engine for the first time in the morning the water, as well as the engine components, are at the temperature of their surroundings.
Around 90 per cent of the wear takes place during the first 10 minutes of the journey because of this.
