Default maintenance required light

The last time I had the oil changed, the guy there was unable to reset the light. I bought the car used and don't have an owner's manual so I have no clue how to do it myself. Can anybody help me out? Thanks so much!!!

Take the car to AutoZone and get a diagnostic check for your check engine light, it's free. They'll tell you what the error code is.

If you're just looking to reset the light, search around in the DIY section about reseting your CEL (Check Engine Light). Make sure you don't do it the easy way and disconnect your battery, you'll need your anti-theft code to reset your radio (which I assume you don't have since you don't have your owner's manual).

It's the maintenance light not the check engine light!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't go to Auto Zone

Do this:
With the car off, press and hold the Trip/Reset button on the gauge cluster. Turn the key to "ON" (don't start the car) and continue to hold it for 10-15 seconds or until it goes away.

Nancy it would help to know what car, what year, what transmission, and what engine in the future.
