New 2007 owner with a warrantee question
For 20 years I have bought my cars through a dealer who goes to a large auction -immaculate record.
Last month I bought an 2007 Accord with 27K miles - love it, clean as a whistle with a perfect Autocheck record.
The service book is blank though.
Not that I expect it to matter but does this invalidate the basic warrantee?
Does it have to be looked at by a qualified dealer to 'activate' the warrantee? - the local Honda dealer is supposed to be the worst of the worst both in customer relations and service.

Extended warranties can be a toss up. Obviously extended warranties are in the best interest of the seller, or they would quit selling them.
I had an extended warranty ona jeep wrangler one time that cost me about $1500.00. I had to have major transmission work done that the warranty paid for @ $1000.00. I then sold the jeep 6 months later and the warranty company pro-rated it giving me back $1200.00 back.
My dad has a 4 runner that threw a rod at 103,000 miles. Most extended warranties cover to 100,000. Warranty would be no good in that situation.
I currently do not have an extended warranty on any of my cars.
Pros and cons, risks and gains.

Personally I would NEVER buy an extended warranty. There are far too many of these extended warranty companies that either go bankrupt, or simply will deny any claim you send in to them. Total waste of money IMO. You would be better off placing the money you would have spent on the warranty in a savings account and leaving it there in case something happens to the car.

Extended warranties usually don't make sense for me since I work on my own cars. But YMMV. Make sure you check the fine print. Some of them can only be honored at one place, so if you move across the country you can't use it.
