I decided to join this forum because I am about to recieve a "ma-and-pa special (very low price)" 2000 accord EX.

In the past 20 years, my family has owned 5 accords and many more honda/acuras. They all tend to be reliable, but the 2000 has seen many bad days due to tranny issues.

By 5000 miles, it was on its third tranny and 35000 miles required one more. This last one has seemed to work, but I think of it as a time bomb. Simply put, I consider my 1999 Audi A4 wagon to be a more reliable car.

To solve the glass-tranny issues, I was hoping to swap both the engine and tranny out of a newer V6 accord. I have no intentions of doing a hodge-podge build with parts from five different J-series engines. I'm simply interested in the J30A4or J30A5.

NOTE: it seems that the J30A4/5 engines with trannies cost about 1/3 as much as a rebuilt tranny for my 2000 accord!!!

I am mechanically inclined, so the task does not daunt me...except for the AC system.

Search around, but I think the V-6 auto trannys are the ones to have problems. What about swapping a 4-cyl with 5-speed?

Welcome. And it's been a while since I've made my last pilgrimage to Kopps for burgers & custard... I just looked - Orange Dream is today's flavor. MMMMMmmmmm!!

Hi Al,

I'm here in Milw too, and although somewhat new to HAF, I'm liking it so far. There's a bunch of excellent people here.

PM me if I can help w/ anything. I'm near 86th and Capitol. I have a service manual for my car that should apply to your model too.

Wow, there's a big MKE connection. I grew up about 2 blocks from Grant Park.

Well, I'm actually from Cedarburg. I'm in Milwaukee daily and head over to the locally famous West Allis for "car" reasons. I also deliver pizzas in Mequon.

So...I want to get the newer 7th genV6 engine in a 6th genV6 accord. I'll stick with the auto. The newtranny is leagues better than the older one.

Can it be done?
Has it been done?
