NewB from the Bay Area
Hey, I'm still trying to figure out what I want to be if/when I grow up
Just a guess but with the background and that I'm pretty sure you won't have an issue finding something "nice". A plus, if you would be willing to move to a different part of the country.
Me, stick around, I hate cold.....below 70 and I'm like a snake. If my job/skills (same pay) could get me further south....TX, LA, MS, AL, ect. I'd be gone in a second, But we do what we have to.
Good luck in whatever comes your way and what you decide to do.

The weather is one reason I wanted to stay, but only one of many. It never gets really cold here....at least in comparison to say, North Dakota. It does get down to below freezing once or twice a winter for a day or three. Maybe a week at the most. That's it though. It doesn't snow here for the most part (hasn't in 30 years) but if I want snow, it's just a couple hour drive to Lake Tahoe and a bunch of ski slopes like Heavenly and Alpine Meadows. Squaw Valley is about the same distance.
The beach is also just about an hour drive. I'm only about 45 minutes from The City and about the same from Sacramento. It really is a wonderful place to live....aside from the cost of living and the over population. I settled in about 7 miles from work so I have essentially no commute. For me, the biggest pluses are Sears Point is only about 30 minutes away. Napa is about the same. Racing and wine are two of my favorite things!
Monterey is about two hours away also, and I make the annual pilgrimage there once a year for World Superbike racing. Plus, right now, the Tour of California is going on, and they are riding right through the county where I live. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I can do every single thing I want to do living here and I don't have to travel far to do any of it. Then there's the weather to just top it all off. This was taken about 10 minutes from my house.....in February!
Thanks! I'm not inferring anything here.....but I wasn't even born in 1965! Haha LoL......what was your AFSC? They've changed so much that when my oldest son told me what his was, I had no idea what it meant! I've only been retired for 4 years and things have changed drastically in some ways in just that short a time......sean
