Smile Newbie with a 1992 Honda Accord EX

Hello my is name Luis, otherwise known as CTGearhead.

I currently own a 1992 Honda Accord EX. It was my fathers for quite a while before he got himself his Chrysler 300 Touring. The car was used rarley since then and was moved from place to place. Amazingly she still starts without hesitation (With a another car to assist of course.

She is in real rough shape though .

It is plagued with problems. The car doesn't start unless it is jumped by another car and it will not turn on again once turned off.

The headlights and brights drain enough energy to shut off the car.

The Battery is a brand new Duralast Gold battery and the alternator is still good. Upon further investigation I found out that the after market car alarm and remote start that my dad installed when he owned the car might be causing the issues.

The car needs a new driver side door and a new exhaust. I believe there is either a hole or a crack in my exhaust manifold or the pipes. Some body work is needed, the usual Honda quarter panel rust.

Also I need a new radiator and hoses.

I do most of the work and repairs on my cars unless they require a lift or expert knowlege.

I also own a 1992 Acura Vigor but it is in even worse shape than the Accord and Im going to part it out.
Shame though, I love that car.

Any help of any kind would be greatly appreciated .

if alternator and batter both are good then you def have something drawing large current...

Although, I'd still bet that the alternator is your problem unless you recently changed it. I'm not familiar with Hondas very much since i just bought my first one today, but most alternators put out 70-110 AMPs which is far more than you should use unless you have a big stereo. I don't know what our alternators are rated at but you should consider swapping that first.

Thanks Willey and congrats on getting your first Accord!
ill keep the Alternator in mind but I think the alarm system/Remote starter is what is drawing a large current. Ill have my friend's brother who is an electronics specialist take a look at it. Ill post the results posted on here lol

The alarm/remote start should not be capable of drawing enough current to keep your alternator from charging the battery. Sounds like the alternator barely is able to put out enough amperage to keep the vehicle running.
