Noob here - What's up?
I just got a Honda Accord Ex about a month ago. There were some appearance modifications done such as Reverse Glow Gauges, Added Tachometer, Carbon Fiber Hood with Racing Pins, Carbon Fiber Gear **** (even though its automatic), JDM Blacking Housing Headlamps, Black Housing Clear Corner Lights, JDM Bumper and Fenders. So far that was it.
I'm looking to add performance modifications but there are someissues I need to fix first. Speedometerand odometer is not working along with the Cruise Control. I already searched and I'm already changing the Vehicle SpeedSensor to see if that's it. Not too expensive to change anyway.
My problem is this, the previous owner who works in a car shop notified me that the engine was changed to a 2000 Honda Accord Non-VTEC engine. He gave me the reciept that list an engine that was bought but I have to verify with the engine number.
I have future plans for this vehicle (sort of a project vehicle) but I'm afraid I'll be getting the wrong parts if the engine was changed.
First Part of My Modification List for now
(Leaning towards Greddy) Catback Exhaust System
Brand Name (maybe DC Sports) Headers
Hi-Flo Catalytic Converter
(Probably AEM) Cold Air Intake
17" Inch Rims with Performance Tires (Maybe Enkei Rims - something light weight)

RE: Noob here - What's up?
Check for the engine code on the engine, to the right side of the exhaust manifold. If that doens't make sense let me know and I'll see if I can find a pic. if it is truly a non-VTEC it will be easy to know anyway since VTEC will be in huge letters on the valve cover (top of the engine).
Engine codes for the 2000 model:
non-VTEC - F23A5
LEV VTEC - F23A1
ULEV VTEC - F23A4
if your engine is the F23A5 it came out of a 98-02 Honda Accord DX. That means you need to buy engine parts for the DX model.

Hey Ray!!! Welcome to HAF!!! VSS sounds very likely, glad you do your homework. In 2000, there were 3 engines offered and all have VTEC. The 4 cylinders are the F23A1 and F23A4 and are basically the same. The A4 version gets 2 less HP and 2 less ft.lbs. of torque along with a CARB certification. Assuming you have an F23 engine, don't do the headers. They will make the car a slower daily driver by eliminating some of the already scarce torque. If you're set on doing the cat, go with Random Technologies since it's the only TRUE performance cat that I know of for Hondas, but I wouldn't expect much of a gain there. I forgot where the engine model is noted on the block, but many others here can tell you, or you can search old posts for the location.
People are going to want to see pics and also, please add a signature to your profile. Good luck!!!!
EDIT: I knew that guy would know ^^^. Also, I wasn't aware there was an A5 .... learn something new every day.
EDIT#2: 8.8:1 CR ..... same as the F22B2. Should be a good engine for low psi boost, limited by the flimsy F23 rods.

RE: Noob here - What's up?
Thanks guys. I added some more information on the sig and a pic of the car. Still need to research on how to properly add a pic to the sig.
Anyway, just curious. If the engine is indeed from a 1998-2000 accord, would the VSS sensor have to be from the same year?

RE: Noob here - What's up?
I spoke to the original owner and he said it is the original transmission.
The previous owner said he had it professionally installed. Does that mean that the transmission has not changed in the 98 - 2000 model? Interesting?

Thanks Whitefoxx.
My wife wants to add more appearance mods but I want to go with performance mods which cost more and longer to install. I'm just happy that she's cool with it.
I have a question though:
I have some dings and dents not big at all but a few little ones.
Should I work on getting those fixed first or just go with performance mods first?
