Angry Oil Pressure switch

I have a 2010 Honda Accord V6, that just turned over 50,000 miles. My problem is that the oil pressure switch went bad when I was traveleling (was more than 200 mile from home) at about 4:30a. I want to know if this should have happened. I took the car to a honda dealer later that morning after the car basically stalled and I was beyond scared because i was traveling alone. I just want to know if this is the norm for the new hondas? I have been driving honda since 1989 and swore by them, but now not so much. I have had a few problems with this vehicle and after what happened on Monday I want to get rid of the car and go with another make, like Toyota, or Nissan. Any/all comments are welcome. I had to pay $200 to get this fixed! Thanks, Frustrated.

Welcome to the forum. Generally, these type of questions should be posted in the General Tech Help section.

But, to answer your question; of course, it should not have happened. The 2008 - 2012 Accords are 8th generation Accords. The 4 and 6 cylinders have their respective issues (not every one, some of them). However, most of the issues will not leave you stranded. I am surprised an oil pressure switch would cause it to stall.

On your invoice, can you list the description they wrote for the diagnosis/problem and the replacement part number? That way I can try to tell if this is even similar to anything else I know about.

Even at over 50,000 miles, your car would still be under the 5-year/60,000 miles powertrain warranty. You should inquire why this wasn't covered under that warranty with the dealer. If they don't refund back your money, try calling Honda America customer service; you can find the number as part of your owner's manual or on the web.

Also, if the invoice did not list the trouble code, inquire with the dealer to see what was the specific trouble code.

This should have been covered under the 5-year/60,000 miles powertrain warranty, as the dealer should be able to get reimbursement from American Honda. Talk to the dealer regarding this to try to get a refund.

This problem is specific to the V6. Some people's symptoms may be; but not limited to: lack of power, rough idle, etc. I had not heard of the stalling yet; but, it is probable. Be aware, that sometimes just changing the oil pressure switch does not solve it, it may require changing the rear rocker arm oil control valve (also call a spool valve) - which costs more and is a lot more labor. However, like I said, it should have been covered under the powertrain warranty.

Here is a link with some Honda technical info.
