Arrow Thinking about an Accord

Hey guys my 92 Prelude Si recently broke down on me and I am in the market for a new car. I am seriously considering the following Accord:
1999 Honda Accord
EX coupe V6 model
79,000 Miles.
Automatic
Here's a link:
http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/cto/1610430126.html
Everything about the car is perfect except for a couple things. It is a little older than I was looking for but the lower mileage and price make up for that.
And I have been reading a lot of horror stories about transmission problems in the 98-04 V6 auto Accords. Just how common are these problems? The carfax looks completely clean. Car is still on the original Transmission.

Thanks all!

It is the 98-02 Accords with the trans problems. I would not buy it. You have at least a 50% chance of the trans failing on you. I would never buy a 98-02 automatic Accord.
That's pretty cheap for a 99 with 79k miles. I would not be surprised if the owner has noticed slight trans problems already and is trying to get rid of the car.

I'm not really sure about the transmission thing man a lot of people do complain about it, but it's hard to say. If you're going to look for info online you're almost always going to hear it from those with the problems and not so much from those that don't.

I guess it depends a lot on how you take care of your car and how hard you push it when you drive. I take it easy on the roads and my car is at 170,000+ and running smooth, but maybe that's because I don't mind driving like a grandma

50%?? Ouch. I usually baby my cars so it's not really so much worrying about me as the previous owners which carfax estimates at two.

Ugh. Is the general consensus that bad on the auto 98-02 v6 accords?

Also: how's this civic look?
2000 Civic Ex coupe.
Auto
68,000 miles
5300 obo
Any major problems there? Not all automatic hondas have the tranny problems, right?

Yes. The 98-02 4 Cyl Accords had the same transmission problems.
Civic's did not. The Civic looks fine to me.

I thought it was only the V6 that had the real issue? Because they used the 4cyl trans in place and it over torqued the trans with the 6? I didnt keep up on it much.

The 4cyl have just as many problems as the V6 trans. There are 4cyl AT drivers over on 6thgenaccord.com that are on ther 3rd transmissions.

Korrupt, they can't swap trans between them (V-6 & 4-cyl), since the engines spin opposite directions & the trans sits on opposite sides of the engine bay.

They are different transmissions, and they are both slushboxes
