Default Trans mission and engine change

I have a '99 V6 vin# sixth digit 2 car that really needs a new transmission and with 250,000+ miles could use a lower mileage engine. So I'm looking at what I could do. I can find sixth a six digit 2 engine but a transmission for this seems rare and very expensive. So I have some questions
1. What is the difference in the Vin # sixth digit 2 or 1?
2. Is there any other Honda transmission that could work?
3. Can I put a newer/sixth 1 engine and transmission in this car? If so would I need to switch the ECU/computer?

This is my wife's car and I know that any of these things will cost WAY more than the car is worth but that's really not my focus up to some dollar amount.

update. Well, know one seems to know or no one is infested in this topic. I have found an engine, transmission, computer, and wiring harness from an '01 V6 locally enough to go and get it. It has 100K less miles than mine so it seems the way to go. Anyone want to comment on what I should do to the 'new' engine while out before installing?

Timing belt (and all pulleys and water pump), front and rear main oil seals, remove and reseal the oil pump, new front cam oil seals, and a full serpentine belt replacement kit.
