Default Accord Engine into a Chevy Corvair

Hey... Needing some expertise on installing F22b2 engine into a Chevy Corvair. the F22b2 engine was chosen because of the reverse rotation, similiar HP, Torque and weight. I know that might be a better motor, but Im looking for inexpensive and dependable engine for the aging corvair... plus I think it will be just plain cool.

I'm going to adapt to a Corvair Powertrain and so the transmission PCM/ECM stuff will not be needed, only the engine. I was going to buy a car with all the stuff in it so I will have everything. Which Accord would be best?, Do I need a manual Trans so I will get a ECM without the trans stuff. Does it needed to be ODB1 or 2.

When I fuel injected/DIS the Corvair, (www.corvairnut.com) the guys were a little funny about that, after this I will be banned from the Corvair world.... this might be my new home.

Thanks for any help

Is the engine compartment long enough?

Got welding stuff for making a structure for the engine mounts?

Sounds like a fun project, but it's a real PROJECT. I mean I haven't heard anyone around here saying they've done that before.

Is the engine compartment long enough? 2" to spare, with minimal cutting

Got welding stuff for making a structure for the engine mounts? Yes... pretty good at that stuff.

I plan for this to be a viable replacement for the old engines. I wil need help on stuff like computer/ODB1, etc

Based on what I know (or dont know). I plan to get a whole car. 92-95 Accord, 4 Cly, reverse rotation (F22), odb1, manual transmission, wiring harness, fuel pump.

The high engineering trick will be the adapter between the Honda engine and the Corvair Differential. I bought a rust bucket 68 Corvair 500 yesterday to farther this project along. Looking for the above car if I can get some guidance.

Im excited about this project.

I would really suggest joining Honda-Tech.com and post this in their Accord forum.

They have some truly amazing, helpful, and knowledgeable people who know what they are talking about. However, if you do this, which I hope you do, please be sure to let them know you are serious and already have another parts car. Reason being is that many ask if they can put some engine and some car when they really have no intention of doing it. I am 19Accord97 on there as well.

Sounds like a heck of a project.
I would say go with OBDI for sure. OBD2 is too complicated and would cause more hassle. That means the engine can be no newer than 95 year model - it looks like you know that already.

here's a suggestion on how to get the guys on honda-tech to trust that you are serious: Post some pictures of the corvair and tell them what you told us in this thread.

... although... I quit going over there because I had to wade through so many nonsense posts, flaming, testosterone-laden boasting, stuff like that, just to get the 1% of actual technical content. It used to be much better. With any luck, it might get back to TECHNICAL content. There's a bunch of real good knowledgable people over there, like here.

But still, I wouldn't be surprised if you're the first & only person to put a Honda engine into something as different as a Corvair.

*10Accord 97..I took away 9 of his years for trying to send someone to that site needs to stay here where most everyone is completly sane..

Thanks Jim for pointing that out for the new member..I find the same thing you did over there..they are very petty over there sometimes...
