Hi everyone,

I have a 1993 Accord 2 Door/Coupe A/T. Made improvements such as full cat-back system, headers, cold air intake system. I was told that the only thing to do with the engine stuff is make it turbo and put nitrous there.

Will there be big difference in HP and worth the upgrade? Is it safe for this engine and car considering that my car has about 8,000 + miles on it. Yup, relatively low mileage. I am afraid that if I do it, it might affect or spoil the engine.

If it is safe to do it, what are the materials needed so that I can buy it from my supplier? Will my car pass private inspection in New Jersey?

Turbo or nirous isn't the only thing you can do to get big HP gains, but probably the best, most cost-efficient options. Do you want power that's always there when you need it? You'd want turbo. If you just want an occasional boost to smoke a hemi out of a turn or something, then nitrous would be a good bet. Nitrous is cheaper while a turbo can be a lot more money. And you don't have to do both. Right now, I only have turbo and plan to keep it that way.

If you go turbo, you will notice dramatic HP gains. Your power band is going to increase and your car will accelerate more quickly. As long as your motor is broken in, turbo will be awesome on your engine. You can get a list of parts I used in the turbo help thread. It's cheaper to piece a kit together, but a pre made kit is ready to go out of the box. In general, you can usually cut your costs in about half (or more) with a custom pieced kit. I turbo'd my accord with 140,000+ miles on it!

Also, you'll want to change the timing belt out if the car has been sitting for a very long time. a 93' with only 8000 miles! Turbo will work your engine more, and that is a bit of a weak link. I'd recommend doing the whole timing belt job before the turbo. You may also want to consider a transmission cooler since your trans will be recieving more power. It's a good idea to change the fluid out too, just to be safe.

You mentioned about changing the timing belt as well as putting a transmission cooler before doing the turbo. Being a well versed car guy in terms of turbos and other engine stuff, how much would you think it would cost me to do all of these things?

If doing a turbo upgrade won't spoil the engine, I might as well go for it anyways. Any links or URL where I may find the right parts at a reasonable price?

If you can do the belt yourself, you can save tons, since around here it costs 500 bucks to do the whole job. Get all the parts (there's a thread on one of the other boards with a link to a list of parts you need), which should include all the drive belts, a timing belt, a balance shaft belt, the main seal, balance shaft seals and plates, cam seals, and water pump and seals. It's not a huge job to do, and the parts shouldn't cost over 100 bucks.

As far as turbo parts go, you can piece together a kit for maybe $1500. eBay is the best place to start. Piece it together and go!

If you have any question in your mind as far as feeling the turbo's power or if the gain is worth it, the answer is most certainly yes.
