Default is it necessary to get new strut towers with coil-overs?

i read that from this forum i found on yahoo

http://www.mustangevolution.com/foru...ings-6910.html

"the only thing about coil overs is that they are known to put a lot of stress on the strut towers, and most manufacturers recomend using camber/caster plates with the coilovers to help distribute the stress on the strut towers"

has anyone had any expereince?

I know that using coilovers and lowering a car puts excessive stress on your struts/shocks since they are in a compressed situation all the time and will make them blow faster but I haven't heard about their being a problem with added stress on the tower itself requiring a camber plate for help.... you need camber plates to adjust camber but that won't alleviate the stress on the struts.... it may distribute it more evenly on the tower though....

your strut towers are actually part of the unit body of the car and cannot be replaced short of welding in new ones after cutting out the old ones.

What they are referring to is the strut bearing plate that has a large bushing in it as indicated by #13,10, and 9 below

When you lower a car you need to install a camber/caster kit if you want everything to get alligned properly....
