Turbo Swap?
I'm working on a friend's car and it has a turbo stock. does that mean that I can swap in a newer, more modern, and more powerful turbo and a new inter-cooler and have everything work?
Yes but it might come with some modifications. Someone with more turbo experience can help you out better. I’m more of a all motor man but I’m personally working on a boosted set up but I don’t know the ins and outs like some other might.
almost all stock form turbo vehicles could use upgrades. larger turbos , better exhaust, intake side of turbo is usually restricted with a resonator box and cheap paper filter. ecu tuning, boost controler, bigger better wastegate , and a larger bov. stock turbo vehicles can are pretty easy to upgrade and take a beating before internal engine work is required. just shop wisely and for what ever car your tuning look for factory support first. maybe even a forum. glwp
Also some retrofit might be needed if your intercooler is larger, turbo is larger, etc depending on the car and all.
After swapping in upgraded turbo parts, make sure that you're not pushing too much boost that the stock engine can take, you might need to upgrade other parts to make sure you're safely pushin' it.
Good luck!
