2000 Accords: why so cheap?
Hola again, boys! I know, no one remembers me, haha. Anyway, I've been looking at NH ads on CL for Civics and Accords, and I was wondering why 2000 Accords are SO stinking cheap? I read on Wiki that there was a transmission problem. Might that have anything to do with it?
How would I know if there's a transmission problem when test driving it? I'm only looking for an automatic.
Or are these just beaters I've been happening upon? Thx!

Well they are 11 year olds, so I wouldn't expect them to be more than 4-5,000. But the 98-02s had some pretty bad automatic transmission failure. The V6s had it worse than the 4cyl, but the 4cyl was by no means immune.
There are people who drive them for years and years and never have an issue, but then there are people that have replaced the transmission 4 or 5 times. To me personally it is not worth the risk. What to look for in a test drive is when you hit the gas if it kind of slips, and the rpms jump up but the car doesn't move. That is the beginning of the end for the transmission.
Like I said to me personally its not worth the risk, but to some it is, and you may never have a problem.
Oh and Live Free or Die

Ah, ok, thx! I will avoid. I just don't even want to dip into those waters. The cars I've seen listed have had good mileage but been in the mid-$3k range, so that's suspiciously cheap. In this area, Civics go for that with 50k more miles!
Thx,
Kristen
[edit] Oh, the car in my .sig is long gone for a Frankenstein project. Been saving for over a year for another car! Must. Work. Well. o_o

Well, I'm looking to spend just under $4k, so I'm going with something whose year starts with a "2." I hope!
Frankenstein as in, someone bought it to put two of that model together to make one working car. It was in baaad shape body-wise; only got $300, hah.
