Does anyone think the Identity Theft Protection plan offered by Chase Visa where they monitor your cretit reports for you and notify you of changes (and all sorts ofother crap)is worth the $11.99/month fee they charge? I said "yes" to it originally, but now I'm having second thoughts...

AFAIK, It's the law for them to protect your liabilities in that sense..

If your card is stolen, they are legally obligated to investigate the matter and handle it accordingly... If it's blatantly obvious that someone is using your identity, then it should be fairly easy to convince a supervisor to re-issue a card once the outstanding purchases have been denied and any liability removed on your part....

However, I would call the CC company you bank with and act like you're going to sign up new (cuz they'll give you some BS if they see you already have it, they want you to keep it) and see what they offer in terms of Identity Theft and Stolen Accounts without any incurred charges.

--EDIT--

OK I just re-read your description again, and it actually seems like this is a custom service... TBH, no I still don't think it's worth it for a few reasons:
1) You get a free credit report every year anyway
( See your rights @ http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/...eereports.shtm )
2) At 11.99/mo it will cost you $143.88/yr.
3) If you wanted, Experian offers the "Big 3" credit reports for $35... If you were desperately paranoid, you could afford 5 credit reports (1 free + 4 purchased [yet still under the cost that your bank charges]) that would provide YOU that information directly - instead of relying on someone else to do it and you never see it.
4) I really don't want some stranger looking at all my information unless it's necessary.

Thanks for the input. I was strongly considering cancelling for all the reasons you listed.
The only reason I said OK to it is when I activated the card, instead of getting a recording (like my wife did) I got a person. Some foreign guy I could barely understand that kept me on the phone for like 20 minutes. If I said "no" to any of the services, he would re start his entire shpeel about why it is so good and rant on for another 5 minutes with some drivel I could barely understand, speaking at the speed of a frickin auctioneer. I got so tired of listening to him I just said "ok, send me all the stuff in the mail so I can review it." I think I'll call and cancel tonight. I swear if I get that same guy on the phone I'm gonna freak out though.

Find out what country his call center is in and ask if he can talk without reading scripts.

Haha! I know. I could totally tell he was reading everything from a sheet of paper or computer screen. It was so frickin annoying!

For that matter, ask him if he understands what he's reading because you need a better explanation.
