Default Need parts help- AT control unit

My son's 1991 Accord LX needs a new auto trans control unit. Part # 28100-PXO-823.
Honda tells me there are 6 in the U.S. and the cost is $1000. No luck at the local parts stores, NAPA, Auto, etc. They did say they could get mine rebuilt, but it'll take a couple of weeks. He can't do without his car that long. I did find a couple of listings on-line for new units, but they want $800+. I ain't got that kind of money.
Can anybody direct me to a rebuilder who might have one in stock at a reasonable price? Any other sources?

Try a salvage yard or car-part.com and expect to pay $60-100 for one. Honda is yanking your chain by feeding you that BS.

You could actually rebuild it yourself if you're decent at soldering and know your way around Radio Shack. What usually happens with them is a few of the resistors/transistors burn up and you need to replace them. Open it up and take a look-see.

And for future reference, car store chains rarely sell something like that, it's just not worth it to stock such parts. They only really do things that needs to be maintained like timing belts, spark plugs, oil filters, gaskets, etc.
