LOL @ the "war" on drugs ..... and losing it.

Does this mean that the bong smoking hippies are fighting a war? ..... and winning it??? and here they just thought that they were getting frucked up! It's hilareous to think of the GOP losing a war, using all their resources to a gang of stoned people that can't even get off the couch!!!

How about a war against ignorance?!? I think public stupidity causes more problems than drugs or alcohol.

"Did you know America ranks the lowest in education but the highest in drug use? It's nice to be number one, but we can fix that. All we need to do is start the war on education. If it's anywhere near as successful as our war on drugs, in no time we'll all be hooked on phonics. ~Leighann Lord"

Maybe that poverty or at least, grossly unequal distribution of wealth, is a bigger problem

Another area of my ignorance is your education system. Dont really know what a High School is or what age you go to university and this sport scholarship thing is a total mystery.
Maybe America hasn't caught onto education as a money spinner yet. Give you an example - its approx 35 miles North to South in my republic. That area contains 5 universities, each with student bodies of about 15 thousand average so say 75k students, about 60% of that will be students from outside the EU all paying full tuition fees. Durham has a top business school only bettered by Manchester - to do an MBA there will set you back about £15K and there is a waiting list as long as your arm -you know MBA - Master of Bugger All. Domestic students then benefit from the rip-off of non-European students but you have to work at it on the marketing side.

This has likely changed but when I was in school (and Tyrannosaurus Rex roamed the earth) it went this way:

1. grades one through six was elementary school.
2. grades seven through nine was junior high school.
3. grades ten through twelve was high school, graduate at age 18.
4. college would vary but for a four year degree you would go from age 18-22, give or take.

Let's take a high school athlete that is exceptional in his or hersport, say basketball. As he/she reachestheir senior year scouts from colleges around the nation try to recruit him/her to theircollege/university to improve their standings in the league. In return they will offer a scholarship that essentially pays most or all of the costs involved in going to college. The individual's grades must be kept up and there are other considerations but that's essentially it. Many of the large universities make a great deal of money when their teams are winners hence the recruitment and scholorships.
