Posting Pictures?
I had kind of an off question, so I thought it belonged in this section. Hope I am right
Anyway, I was wondering why most people photoshop out their licence plate when they upload pics to this site/other sites. I just posted some pics of my car and just relized I forgot to do that. I am really looking for the reson why???
A friend of mine told me people do it because other people can write down your tag numer and bring it to (say your local Honda dealer) and get a key cut. I also heard the same for your VIN#, some say to place a bussiness card in your window so your VIN is not shown, this goes with the same theory that someone can take your VIN to a dealer and get a key cut.
I just dont buy any of this. I mean if that's the case, I could just write down my neigbor's tag of his new Ford Explorer and take it to the local Ford dealer, get a key cut, wait till 2am and drive his car away.....
Anyone know what's the real deal??? Or is my friend acually right?

Your license plates are out in public view whenever you drive the car.
I think it's more about privacy on the internet. I've done that just because everyone does, but didn't really think about it too much.
Even your VIN is public. All someone's got to do is look at the VIN tag in the windshield when you're parked at the store.
Theoretically (I hope) if you go to a dealer with the VIN & ask for a key, I hope they make you show a title for the car or at least some good identification.
