All shook up over Dakota's 'Hounddog'






Twelve-year-old Dakota Fanning deals with rape and child abuse in 'Hounddog.'

Cute-as-a-button child star Dakota Fanning, who turned 12 in February, is venturing into sexually disturbing territory in a movie being filmed in North Carolina.
The screenplay for "Hounddog" - a dark story of abuse, violence and Elvis Presley adulation in the rural South, written and directed by Deborah Kampmeier - calls for Fanning's character to be raped in one explicit scene and to appear naked or clad only in "underpants" in several other horrifying moments.

Fanning's mother, Joy, and her Hollywood agent, Cindy Osbrink, see the movie as a possible Oscar vehicle for the pint-size star. But despite Fanning's status as a bankable actress - whose movies, including last year's "War of the Worlds," have earned more than half a billion dollars since 2001 - the alarming material seems to have scared off potential investors from the under-$5 million indie project.

"The two taboos in Hollywood are child abuse and the killing of animals," a source close to the situation told me. "In this movie, both things happen."

Fanning's carefully choreographed rape scene has already been filmed. But then the production - which also stars Robin Wright Penn, David Morse and Piper Laurie - was shut down for lack of funds. Penn, who's also an executive producer, gave a pep talk to the dispirited cast in the days leading up to the shutdown. The desperate producer, Jen Gatien, daughter of former club czar Peter Gatien, sent out an SOS to New York entertainment entrepreneur Lawrence Robins. Robins located emergency investors, filming resumed, and the movie is scheduled to wrap tomorrow.

Good idea or what?

Personally I think this is just another shinig examply of how deprived of morality our society has become......

 

I agree, disgusting. I mean, even if there is some sort of moral to the story there are certain things that should never be shown in the movies. I hope no one says, "We need to see this so that we can realize what some kids have to go through." We already know, no need to make a graphic movie about it.

 

Simply not acceptable, there are millions of other stories to tell.

 

When watching movies I always wonder about the minds behind the story. This one makes me wonder even more.

 

since when was it legal to film an under aged child naked? How can they put someone behind bars for child pornography then film a nude child and sell it off as being a movie? This makes me sick. The fact that her parents are supporting it makes me even more sick. I'm sure anyone else on here who has children would NEVER allow their 12 year old to be filmed naked and RAPED for that matter just so they could "hopefully win an award".... Europe is notably less conservative when it comes to things but even they wouldn't venture into this realm I mean come on....

The second point though is how many people will go watch the movie just to see how bad it is? People are obsessed with violence (I.E. Matadors, Gladiators, War etc.) Who would watch the news if all it told you was about how wonderfull Nancy is doing with her newborn in connecticut Vs. 12 americans died today in iraq. I mean honestly we have no one to blame but ourselves for this occuring. If we as a people weren't so obsessed with death and distruction no one would ever even consider making this film. Now I pose the question again who here thinks that a ton of people will go see this movie just to see how bad it was? (Think Brokeback Mountain)

It is a shame that this film is being shot in my state. It is totally outragous. I have notice recently with alot of movies that they have alot of bad crazy things happening to children. It makes me so mad!!! I hate it. Of all the creative people out there why can't someone be making better movies? Honestly the best movies I've seen lately have been Shrek(1&2), Ice age(1&2), and I also like adam sandler movies. It actually sickens me to watch the twisted movies today like the ring and saw. The mind of the people who made those movies are truly disturbed and shouldn't be getting paid for their psychotic thoughts. It is scarey because it reflects bad on our society as a whole. Why is it that these movies are so popular? It may be fiction but who likes it when children are the ones being tortured and hurt in these movies. That is totally uncool and it should be stopped NOW!!

 

Thats ridiculous. Not only is it simply not right, but child molestors are going to see it and then what? If they are going to see that, what would stop them from actually attempting it? All I see from it is bad bad bad. She doesn't need to be naked, if they *must* include the rape scene they're ways to make it more appropiate..... if thats possible. lol
