Default Switching to the euro?

In science class today, we were talking about energy and all that jazz. Anyway, this kid was explaining that Saudi Arabia and other OPEC countries may switch over to the euro b/c the US Dollar has lost about 40% of its value. The switch would mean prices for an oil of barrel would almost double. Meaning near $6 a galloon for us, not to mention any product shipped on diesel trains or semis would be super expensive.. The switch to the euro is planned for around 2010...which would suck horribly.

Later I came up with one thing...the only thing that could save us from that change. An unexpected one at that. China. Yes, China with all their lead tainted and date rape kids toys could save us.

Think about it. China exports almost EVERYTHING to the US and we are their #1 source of ridiculous income. And think about how much plastic is in their products; a ton. Anyways, oil, is used to create plastic and more of it is used for plastic then in automobiles but not by much. This would in turn cause the price for products to skyrocket, and they cant really lower the wages they pay to make up for the decreased profit, and they would STILL have to pay for all the gas/diesel for the ships to ship it over here. This would make the Chinese products even, if not more then the cost of American made products. So, that would make it better for the US to make our own stuff for possibly cheaper right here is the USA. That would in no doubt crush Chinas booming economy and astonishing growth rate. They of course are using about as much oil as we are now that they are developing and beginning to own vehicles. So all of this would lead China to be a very strong ally to keep the OPEC countries from switching to the Euro, hence benefitting us. If it begins to be debated....China may save us from $100 fill ups.

Whatcha think?

Default RE: Switching to the euro?

sure, if you dont mind paying 3 times the cost for products made in america, the reason we get so much from them is cause it cuts costs in the end, but this is only a minor thing in the end especially when china is currently consuming 1/3 the worlds resources. As a side note, many people already have $100 fillups and others are paying half that..... ever consider an alternate mode of transportation? ^_-
