What is the proper way to dispose of old Oil and Gasoline?
OK...here's the deal. I have an old lawn mower that I am trying to "chunk."Down here in Mississippithe garbage guys will pick it up if I drain the oil and gasoline out of it.
So here's the question:
How do I properly dispose of the old oil & gasoline? I know I should probably know this, but I don't change my own oil in my car because I'd rather pay $20 or $30 to have it done than jack up my car and do it myself.
Is there a specific kind of container I need to use?
Is there a specific place I need to take the oil and gas to dispose of it after I drain it?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Shadow. I figured they might. I'll call one tomorrow & ask them if they know about the gasoline.
Anybody change their own oil or ever removed & drained a gasoline tank? I'm sure anyone who has ever removed a gasoline tank didn't re-use the old gasoline.
Any specific container I could useother than a gas can?

My local trash dump accepts used oil. I live in a town of about 2,000 people so we don't have curbside trash pickup, we haul it ourselves. I don't know about ya'll.
Small push mower. I just poured the gas in there about 10 days ago. The gas had previously been drained. I was trying to crank it to see if it was worth salvaging and the pull-cord broke after I pulled it 3 times. Maybe like a gallon tops.
Yeah I grew up in a small town too. If I knew where any public dumps were around here I would probably just haul the whole da** thing down there and put a sign on it that says, "I still run but I neer TLC" and somebody would probably take it themselves and pick it up. I feel kind of bad about it. It has a good briggs & stratton 6hp motor on it that I know still ran great. My father in law was going to throw it out because the self-propell part was broken and he broke the handle on the mower trying to man-handle it since it is so heavy. So I took it thinking I was going to fix it. Then my grass got long and I broke the stupid pull cord. I live in a neighborhood with "restrictive covenants" so I knew I would get chewed out soon if I didn't mow my lawn ASAP. Went to walmart & bought a push mower for $109.

Or call your Fire Department, they will advise you how to get rid of any gas you have to get rid of...

OK. thanks guys. I just wasn't sure if re-using that gas was ok. I figured it probably would be, but I didn't want to try it before I had a few of you reassure me.
