HFP Sport Suspension - 8th Gen Accord

Cool HFP Sport Suspension - 8th Gen Accord

Hi All:

One of my next mods to my 2009 Greyghost V-6 / 6MT will be the suspension. Any of you folks have any experience with the Honda Factory Performance (HFP) Sport Suspension? As it is made by Honda for these cars, gotta believe they will be more user friendly as opposed to some of the aftermarket setups. I am most concerned with the tire wear on my expensive Michelin Pilot Super Sports gumballs with the changes in toe-out and camber inherent with this installation. Also, sway bars would be looked at and have seen on some threads that the Acura TL's would work on the Accord. Wonder how they would compare with an aftermarket setup like those found on Throwdown Performance.

If I remember from reading on Honda's website, the HFP suspension only lowers the car about an inch. So, that would not change the suspension geometry drastically. So you should not have to worry about camber wear. Get an alignment after the suspension settles, you'll be good to go. At that height, as long as toe is good, you'll be good. The suspension is stiffer than OEM, but not hugely so.

How is the car primarily used? How do you want it to handle? Because if you want a nice increase in performance, I'd say go with an aftermarket coilover. You can adjust the height, and with nicer ones, the dampening as well. You don't have to necessarily lower the car a lot with coilovers (most will lower the car 1/2" at the highest setting), but you benefit from the upgraded spring rates. It all depends what you want.


And now to sway bars. If it were me, this is what I'd do. TL SH-AWD front sway bar with a Progress 22mm rear. The front will jump from 26mm to 31mm, an the rear will go from 15mm-22mm. This will really cut out your understeer, and make the car very well balanced.

Thanks for the good info. I am planning to stick with the HFP suspension upgrade which i can get for a bit over $500 as opposed to the higher dollar coil-overs, as I do not do not really need the adjustability and run gymkhanas with my coupe, just to accentuate the handling with the extra addition of swaybars. I have found several 22mm rear sway bars such as Ultra Racing and have only found a 28mm front for a 2007-2008 Type S by H & R. As for using the OEM Acura TL-SH AWD front bar, what years of the Acura would be the correct fitment for the Honda? I also plan on upgrading the bushings (poly-urethanes?) if the bars do not already include a good set, so wonder who might be a good outlet for those.
