My car needs brakes and I got a quote from some national brake guy. He said the car recommended ceramic brakes which is 50 more per axel. What is ceramic brakes and what the difference between those and regular brakes.

Ceramic pads were introduced in 1985 on a few new vehicles. Mass secondary market applications for ceramic-based disc brake pads are now becoming widely available

Installing ceramic pads on your original rotors will wear rotors out faster than if you stuck with semi-metallic pads. Dealers will sell you ceramic pads, but don't buy them unless rotors can handle them.

There may be poor stopping power with cold brakes. This is true about older ceramic pads or pads designed for racing. Rotors must be designed for ceramic pads, otherwise the rotors will typically wear faster. Check with your vehicle manufacturer

Ceramic pads still create dust, it is not black and cannot be seen. Current consumer grade ceramic pads have great stopping power. About 33% of new vehicles (domestic and foreign combined) today come stock with ceramic pads. Current generation of ceramic brake lining compounds contain no chopped steel fibers or steel wool as found in earlier semi-metallic linings, but instead substitute ceramic compounds and copper fibers. Some ceramic pad applications may also incorporate noise-reducing features such as chamfers, slots and insulator shims. Regards

So, are there aftermarket rotors for the Accord that can handle ceramic? How do I identify those?
