1990 honda accord... i thought maybe there was some sort of sensor... the tires being too small, throws off the speedometer, odometer, and prolly cuts down on gas mileage

How much smaller are they, overall diameter wise? If it isnt much, it shouldnt make much of a difference. With the tires being smaller, your speedo will read faster than you are really going, I do believe. I dont know that it will hurt your gas mileage much. Why dont you just go back to the correct size tire?

Go here: http://www.dakota-truck.net/TIRECALC/tirecalc.html Click on "compare tire A to Tire B" Put the correct size in A and your current one in B. Scroll to the bottom to see speedo & odo readings.

well i figured out that im usually going 5 slower than what im reading... and it gets bigger when i go faster... 70 is about 62... but the gas milage is horrible. i figure its because the engines got to spin faster to move the small tires. when im going about 60 the tach says 3500.. thats not good. so i guess ill be buying new tires

Yeah, you definitely shouldnt be spinning 3500 at 60mph. I think Im at about 2200 or something when Im doing 60. I dont remember offhand.

What size tires does the car have right now?

Here's a good tire size calculator to check what tire size you should be using instead.

This is what me and my dad have done before.

-Remove the cluster.
-Take the clear cover off of the cluster (where u can touch the speedometer hand).
-Plug the cluster back in with the cover off.
-Follow a friend in another car down the road.
-Using cell phones get your friend to inform u when heis coasting at60mph.
-Following your friend closely, adjust your hand manually to 60mph.
-Put cluster back together.

It's sounds messed up, but it works.

ahh i think ill just get new tires that are the correct size. the tires on there are 170/65 i think. they should be 185/70's. and i still have to figure out why i only get like... 12 mpg. this is getting off topic but does anyone know my gas tank capacity. i thought it was 17 gal. but i could be wrong. maybe my injectors are worn?
