I have a 2009 EX-L V6 that I purchased in Jan of 2009. I have 2 tires that leak air. Every 2-3 weeks my low tire pressure light comes on and I have to add 10-15 lbs of air to the 2 rear tires. I have taken the car in to the dealer 4 times to have the tires checked when this happens as well as having the tires checked everytime I go in for a service call and the shop says there are no leaks, the valve stems are fine, and it is OK and NORMAL to have to put air in them. I am amazed at their continued reply. I asked, "so Honda owners all over America are going to gas stations and putting air in their tires at least once a month, if not more, like me, and that is normal tire behavior?" They shrug and say things like, "well the system is very sensitive." Yup, it sure is, and that is not the problem. I have gotten nowhere with the service techs or the manager. I would appreciate any thoughts on this matter. Thank you.

 

I check my tires every weekend, but they never leak down that fast. Except the few times I've had nails or pieces of metal to make it leak.

One slow leak was alongside the clamp of a balance weight at the bead. Make sure you look for leaking at locations like that.

 

Took the car back in today when the light came on. I had been at the dealer 14 days ago. Talked with the service manager who decided to check the sensors and thought that one might be bad. He ordered 2 and they will be replaced tomorrow. Hopefully that will correct the problem. I am extremely disappointed that it has taken multiple (5-6) trips to the dealer and that they kept trying to explain this as normal.

 

So the sensors??? From your first post I thought that they were actually leaking air - the pressure was actually dropping.

 

They do leak air. He thought the connections between the parts of the sensors might be bad and that might be letting air out. The sensors themselves might be leaking. At least that is his theory...

 

I think when you install new tires, you're 'supposed to' install all new gaskets where the sensors tighten into the rims. Sounds like the sensors are (correctly) warning you about low pressure? I think Schrader or whoever makes the sensors sells a "kit" of gaskets you're supposed to install every time you install tires.

Warranty??? (since it's a 2009 car)

 

The car is still under warranty, and I haven't had new tires put on, so the service manager decided it must be the sensors, since the tires were fine. His official report: "air leaking through valve stems on TPMS sensors. Replaced TPMS sensors and reinitialized sensors." Time will tell if that fixed the problem. The service manager did not come out and speak to me while I waited for over an hour. Too bad for him; he would have earned a point for saying hello.
