Default will this work?

I know this might sound stupid but my dad just bought me 15' X 6.5" wheels for my 1996 accord lx. ONly thing is, is that the tires that I have on my stock wheels are meant for 15X5.5", which are the stock dimensions of my wheels. THe tires are new and I really did not want to replace them if I didnt need to. Would putting the tires that I have on my oem wheels right now on to the new 15X6.5" wheels be okay or no?

there usually is some give and take on how much tires can stretch....i look the tires up on tire rack, or the mfr website. they will say what rim widths the tire will fit on.
