Default legal H.I.D.

I have been wanting to do a H.I.D. conversion kit since i got my accord a year ago, i have been doing research lately on line and at local shops and i am getting mixed feedback. I want to pick up a McCulloch HID conversion kit, but i am not sure if my lights will be legal if i make the switch, I was looking at a 6000 or 8000 kit, a guy at a local shop told me to do it right i will need to get a new projector housing, is this true? or can i use the OEM housing on my 96'. if no new housing is needed will the reflective dome in front of the bulb need to be taken out or does that stay? i have heard people say it has to go and others say it can stay? I am confused??? can anyone help me with some facts, please? Thanks!

Now I'm not sure what you'll have to change about your headlamp to install the hid bulbs, but as long as the beam pattern does not scatter vs. OEM bulbs and the cutoff remains the same, then the swap is legal.

I don't know if you subscribe to Honda Tuning magazine, but there is a great article about refitting for HID in the May 2007 issue. Like Shadow said, you have to be careful about the beam pattern, if it's not done right, you could be blinding oncoming traffic, and that could get you into trouble. Do a little research on HID conversions, there are plenty of websites to find.

From what research I have done you can keep the stock housing with the reflective case around the bulb. Just make sure that it doesn't touch it at all or otherwise you are going to have problems. The reflective housing is what "aims" the light outward toward the road. That is how it can be adjusted. It you went to a true "projector" housing then you would loose that adjustability that you have with the stock headlights. Ask the manufacturer about his kit and everything that is involved. Some of the ones I looked at just make a universal kit for the 9006 and 9005 bulbs, so ou want to make sure that the kit is a true replacement for the Accord, not a universal......Good Luck

If I wanted to get HIDs, I would get the H1 kit right?
