There were 2 wires going to the map lights. 1 was a ground wire and the other is 12V. My car is a 99 Accord 2.3 LX.

There were some other wires there, I probed all of them but none of them carry ignition signal either. I'm afraid that the V1 staying on all the time will drain my battery.

Any ideas on an easier solution than snaking an ignition wire from the radio bay up to the windshield?

 

Use a "Add-A-Circuit" fusible link in one of the unused slots in the driver's side fuse box to run power to the V1 direct-wire power adapter. Connect the ground wire from the V1 direct-wire power adapter to some point on the chassis under the driver's side dash. The "Add-A-Circuit" is available at most auto parts stores.

Then run the power cord (RJ-11 - phone cord type) from the under the headliner, and down the length of the A-pillar and down to the V1 direct-wire power adapter. You can hide the power cord along the rubber insulation or A-pillar cover.

You do not need any tools to run the RJ-11 power cord under the headliner and A-pillar or rubber insulation, just push it with your fingers; it only takes like a minute or so.

 

Thanks! I'll give it a try. Its a shame Honda didn't put an ignition signal up there. Would have been so much more simple.
