Well, after trying a fuse tap, I had no success. The fuse tap didnt fit, as the fuse was too small to hold it. It wasn't a mini fuse..the blades were too tiny to hold a tap.

Will tapping the cigarette lighter void the warrenty?

yeah, using a splicer will void the warrenty. just go to autozone and buy yourself another $10 fuse tap

This is basically what I've done. I got 12V from the wire feeding the two map lights in the overhead panel. Only problem is that it's not switched so you've got to remember to power on/off.

I'm not a big fan of running wires down the A pillar on newer cars that have air bags installed behind the A pillar covers.
