Hi New Member...
If you have a remote power door locks fob for your car, you'll need to make sure you get a bypass unit to put on your vehicle before you install your remote start unit...

I have an '05 Accord

Just a quick question - when I have the keys in the car and it is running, Honda disables the remotes (I can't unlock or lock the doors with another remote) - is this the same with the remote starter system? If I get one installed, will I no longer be able to unlock and lock m doors with the remote that will be in my hand?

Thanks for the help!

Justin

You won't need anthing for the power locks, Honda doesn't have anything special on there keyless entry system.... However, there is a chip in the key, so you will have to have a bypass in order to start the vehicle with a remote unit. It's about 60-80 bucks extra depending on where you have it installed
I have an 05 accord and installed my own DEI viper 791. I love it, it's the coolest thing i've had on any of the cars i've EVER owned. Look to spend about 500 bucks on this unit tho... It comes with everything, keyless entry, security, starter kill, two way remotes(this will actually tell you when your car is being tampered with and where), and remote start
if u just want remote start, it'll be about 180 to 250, depending on wher you have it installed
And yes, jhustblue, you'll be able to unlcok your car with your aftermarket keyless entry system while the car is remote started.

I would also recommend the Viper system. I had the 160 XV installed. It has a 1/4 mile distance with many other features. Make sure you get it at a certified dealer. Check their website. Viper 160 XV
I paid $400 installed and they have to install another kelyess entry system. So you have to have to use the viper remote to lock/unlock when your car is remote started. Makes for a bulky set of keys with the Viper fob and the new style key/fob. But you actually get 1/4 mile on lock and unlock. Directed electronics bought out a whole bunch of companies and Viper is their top one.
