Default RE: "Whirring" Sound Near Timing Belt

ORIGINAL: eaglesclaw121

It's a 6 cylinder - the mechanic did mention the alternator but did not believe it was the problem. My power steering fluid was drastically low when i checked it this morning - it would seem to me a leak in the power steering pump would make sense.
Assuming they're right, how long would a PS pump last with a minor leak?
My 2000 V6 Accord had a similar noise that turned out to be the Alternator. I had the dealer replace it and it was kind of pricey ($250).They gave me a 3year 36,000 miles warranty on it so I was pleased with that.

Cool Whirring still occurring after replacing PS Pump

Hey guys, I currently have a 2003 Honda Accord Coupe EX V6 6 cylinder. I recently took the car to Christian Brothers automotive and they gave me brand new o-rings as well as replaced hoses. However after personally replacing the old power steering pump with a new one in order to relieve the sound from being made (christian brothers advised us that this was the issue). The whirring is coming from the PS Pump area, and the new pump did not fix this noise, what could it possibly be?

Can you remove the belt and start the car and see/listen for the noise....is it gone when the belt is off or still there.

If gone, check/feel the "other" pulleys (idler, alt, ect) to see how they feel.

If the noise is still there, then it must be coming from the timing belt area.

Could be the timing belt tensioner. When you rev the engine, does the sound go away? If so, its likely the tensioner. Had the same issue on a 2.5 V6 Mazda 626 I used to own.
