2.2 non vtec frt balance shaft oil seal mod
If you are changing timing belts or water pump or have any reason to remove timing cover, check to see if front balance shaft oil seal has a metal support bracket that holds seal in place. If you do not see one, do yourself a big favor and install one. These seals fall out (that's right, they fall out of housing). This will cause a massive pressure fed oil leak, perhaps one quart per minute. This could destroy engine crank bearings.
I just did timing belts and water pump 4000 miles ago, but did not know about this mod. Of course, the seal fell out, but I was lucky enough to drive just a short distance before I noticed a huge puddle under car and shut engine off. I drove about 1/2 mile and lost about two quarts of oil.
The Honda part # is 06923-P0A-306 "OIL KIT" $4.39 US. It bolts on to front housing; no drillling required.
Happy motoring!
PS. My car is a 1996 2.2 non vtec. Not sure what series or years of engines this mod applies to.
