hello. this is my first honda. i know quite a bit about them. and ill be as helpful around here as possible. i do have a couple questions for the experienced accord community. i have searched the forums for answers. people are saying that my vtec kicks in at 3000-3500 but... i cannot hear/see any difference at all i have recorded videos to show. can someone help me and is it possibly to make my vtec hit harder and at the rpm i want? like with a chipped ecu?

Accords have VTEC designed more for economy than power. And they're more smooth transitioning.

I had a 95 GSR and it was really funny to hear people say the VTEC "kicked in". In reality what they were hearing/feeling was the secondary runners of the intake manifold opening up.

If your VTEC wasn't working, it would throw a check-engine light, and it would be quite pathetic at higher RPMs. Does your check-engine light come on for 2 seconds when your first turn on the key (bulb-check)?

I also have a 97 Honda 2.2l vtech... I can hear and feel the vtech kick in at around 3500-4000 rpm. its like a mini supercharger, or i like to refer to it as the powerband on a dirtbike.....

that's not vtec you are feeling. That is just your power band. sohc VTEC is made to gain low end to get better gas mileage. kicks in in the 2000rpm range and lets around 4k. soch vtec only open one valve all the way and the other intake valve half way to create a "swirl" effect and does NOTHING to the exhaust valves. unlike the dohc vtec where both intake and exhaust valves open fully in higher rpms for added HP.
