New to the forums, Hope the gurus can help me out.

Replaced the timing belt / water pump yesterday but broke the valve cover bolt putting it all back together.

I tried to drill / easy-out, but am having absolutely no luck.

Took it to the dealership and they are looking at it, but i'm already going to be out a couple hundred bucks with no guarantee of a fix from them.

My questions is;

How necessary is that bolt?
Is it possible to just plug the hole? (possibly with a shorter bolt with a couple of high temp rubber grommets or something??

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
