going FI, needing opinions

well you cant just drop new pistons in without at least honing it. A lot also depends on the shape of the motor. And you are an auto, so you can forget Hondata, and pretty much any other tuning system.

Truth about the tuning... Sounds like the H may be the better option...
i could always burn an H22/23 base map onto a chip and see if that will run the motor with the AT...

I invested some time and money into it when I had the 5th gen... no luck in finding a reliable F22B2 base map, I think they were for F22B1s.... I could sell the ECU + burner to you... and you can destroy your motor.
Nevermind, scratch that, P28 doesnt have a knock sensor and that would probably be desirable on a high comp car.

glad i learned something informative today (about the tuning). is running a 100% stock motor on 5-7lbs with a tranny swap a option i should look at? the motor is guaranteed to have 45k or less on it, with a start up guarantee.

I wouldnt trust tigers mileage numbers, but what kind of motor would you be getting?
H22/23 + boost + manual swap?
Don't get fooled into the "JDM motor" thing, most of them dont need to be imported except a few that are actually JDM or EDM only.

L2R .... why not approximate from comparing injector sizes, then do a minor tune with a wideband O2?
OP: This is from my list.
Pending
Turbo, manifold, wastegate, BOV, downpipe, IC, intake $1050
AEM F/IC and Boomslang harness $700
Cylinder Head and Oil Adapter $285
DW 550 cc/min fuel injectors $195
Oil lines, boost controller, wideband O2, oil pressure gauge <- still need this stuff

Yeah I know nothing about tuning though, will probably just talk to the guy thats going to tune it and have him do a base map for me then put some miles on it then dyno it.
Yeah dont believe the 45k miles thing. They have no idea how many miles are on the motor, no importing company does. They even admit its how old the engine is times the average miles driven per year, but even that is BS because they say the 92 h22 has the same miles as a 2004 k20. That and I have been looking at the motors for years and the mileage never goes up.

valid point live2rice, but even if the motor has 80k on it, its 130k less than the motor i have now.
finch13 i plan on staying with the single cam maily because i know enough about them to keep it running when little things go wrong. my plan is f22+5spd tranny+boost.
isnt reliablility in a stock block determined largely by the quality of the tune? the guy who will helping me the most has a d16y7 that is putting down 180whp, that was sitting in a field that he re-built, and turbo'd the stock internals, and has been running this set up for almost 2 years. isnt the f-series motor stronger or better built than a d-series motor? i understand that there are little, random odds and ends that you would have to buy, like injectors, piping, ic, bov but if i stayed stock on low boost with a good street tune why cant this be a reliable set-up?
