Hey all, just wondering if people had any suggestions for a good engine cleaner. I just bought an accord recently and the under the hood is not the prettiest sight so I wanted to clean it up a bit. I took a wet rage and wiped down most of the black plastic surfaces (ie. fuse box, got a new battery and radiator, cleaned air box, things like that). How should I got about cleaning metal surfaces, things such as the alternator, engine block, fuel rail, headers cover, etc. thanks in advance.

 

Iv always used simple green. Cheap and it works pretty good. I haven’t cleaned my engine bay in 4 ever. I'm sure someone else will have some suggestions too.

 

will purple power work? isn't it just a more potent simple green?

Used both simple green and purple power..both are very good cleaners in my opiniom..

 

I suggest not spraying down your engine bay with water. here is allot of electrical stuff that shouldn’t get wet. I also wouldn’t start the car soon after spraying down the engine bay with water (if that’s what you end up doing) to dry it off. The engine itself would be fine but if you get water into some of the electrical stuff you can easily fry something or short something out. I recommend taking a bucket of hot water with you and couple clean rags and use the cleaner of choice and start spot cleaning. Don’t try and get the whole engine bay at once. Work in sections. Start with intake manifold and work your way to the front. I donno how every you wanna do it I just wouldn’t start spaying and hosing things down is all I'm saying.

 

The thing about Simple Green and Purple Power is that they don't leave that kind of smell, that's why I use it and not the others..something with citrus would also be very good..citrus cuts grease very good...
