I have a 1990 Honda Accord that has won't start. The engine turns over but has no spark. I replaced the distributor and the igniton coil that is found in the inside but still has no spark. Any suggestions on what it could be?

 

did you also replace the rotor and cap? also you should consider spark plugs and their wires. you can test the wires yourself with a voltmeter. remove the wires one at a time and check each, set it to check for Ohms. i believe if its any greater than 25000 they need replaced however i would reccomend it if it hasn't been done recently. if it turns out nothing electrical seems to fix it believe or not it could be a bad fuel pump. just ideas though.

 

Almost garantee that it is the fuel pump relay... the stock relays have a couple of cold solder joints that heat up and melt away causing the pump not to do it's job. you can google search it and it will even give you a tutorial on how to re-solder the joints and what to look for. just search it trust me.

 

so the fuel pump relay causes the car to have no spark?
anyway u can bypass it?
what do you have to do replace it?

 

if the relay is bad then the pump is simply not getting fuel to the engine therefore none to burn and start. it does not really affect the spark. one you can't bypass it you need to as flatline said resolder the joints or replace the parts. for replacement try googling it if you want a DIY or you can take it to a shop and expalin the situation and get an estimate.

 

I would either re-solder it or get a new one for around sixty bucks. teh actual relay is under the dash in the driver side. but a new one can do the same thing.

 

Check fuel pressures and actual sparkbefore you go out buying new parts.

Fuel Pressure - Should be ~30 psiat the rail (after the fuel pressure regulator) and ~40 psi before the regulator.

You can take each spark plug out (individually) and test them by plugging them into the wire and setting them on the header, about 3/8" away from the engine head. A spark should jump the gap when you try to start the engine over. Blue/white spark = good, yellow/orange = weak.

 

Tried putting the spark plugs in the wires and there was no spark, got any other thoughts or ideas. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks

 

electrical problem... check wiring and make sure you connected the distributor and ignition coil correctly? check fuses inside the car and under the hood... ignition fuse should be burnt

 

im 90% sure that no spark has nothing to do with a fuel delivery relay.

i would start by checking to see if you have power at the coil. If you dont (and the key is "ON"), then you have a wiring/ign sw./ign relay problem. If you DO have power at the coil when the keyswitch is ON, its a problem with a component of the ignition system.
