Question Parts To Make Accord Run Better?

Hi all,

I did a search, and looked through a few pages. Couldn't find anything relevant, so here's my first post. Sorry if it's a repeat of one that I missed.

I have a '99 Accord LX with a 2.3L 4 cyl engine. I've had the car for a little over a year, and am just now replacing a few things that are overdue. I just put in NGK Platinum plugs. I was going through the pages of service records I have, and the spark plug wires, rotor head and distributor cap were last replaced at 114,500 miles (I'm now pushing 139,000). From what I've read, it's generally a good idea to replace all of these things at once. Is this true? If so, it's something I want to get done this week for sure.

My second question is what other things can I do to get more power/better fuel economy out of my car? I don't want to turn it into any type of race car, or put an ECU in there or anything. Not yet anyways

I bought two cans of seafoam, and I'm going to attempt using that in all three suggested places once the stupid blizzard passes! Hoping it will clear out some of the gunk and help.

Anyways, sorry for the long post! Thanks in advance

First....welcome to HAF.

Usually the tune up items are done all at once....but if the cap, rotor and the other stuff was done just a few miles ago. Don't worry with them.

First question - I hope the timing belt has been changed?

Do the normal stuff if due or you can't find the records of when they were last done - Air filter, trans fluid (auto and manual need to be changed), brake and ps fluid.

Check the brakes, check the tires....enjoy the ride

Thanks!

I'm not sure how often they should be replaced to be completely honest... my spark plugs were very worn down so I swapped those out, and just figured I should do everything else I mentioned. But if it's not needed then I don't want to waste money haha.

Yes, I have all the service records, and the timing belt was changed two years ago at 118,000 miles (along with a few other belts).

I couldn't find a record of the transmission fluid being changed. I'm going to run seafoam through my car (if I work up the nerve) on Friday, so I think I should get that changed along with the oil after I do it.

I noticed that my rotors and brake pads haven't been replaced since 114K, and that was three years ago. I got my brake lines replaced in September, and they said my pads were OK. Roughly how long do each of those last? Sorry, I know it's an easy question to look up, but I like to hear from people with experience on forums like this.

Thanks for the information!

Lifespan of brake pads varies so much from one person to the next, we can't predict that over the internet.

Definitely will, thanks! Had to put off the seafoam because my new air intake started squeaking when I accelerate. Hopefully this weekend.
