Hi, everyone, I am a new user of Honda Accord.
I bought a Honda Accord 2007 with V6 engine from Honda dealer.
The carfax says this car has a replacement of cylinder head and short block replacement at just 1700 miles in 2007. When I bought the car last week, it has 30K miles. There is no any accident reported and it has regular maintainence record. So far the car is running well.

But I am worried about the replacement of the cylinder head and short block of the engine. I do not know why they repalced them at such a low milage and how serious the consequence of the replacement is going to be.

Is this engine going to be reliable or not?Do I need to buy some extra warranty to get rid of my worry?

Any suggestion is highly appriciated.

 

Find a mechanic to do a "buyer's inspection". Or press the dealer for more information, if you trust them to tell you the whole story.

It might be that the first owner was stupid & let the engine go without oil. There's a lot of ways to damage an engine beyond economical repair, including vandalism & theft.

The real question is whether the NEW engine has been well-cared-for.

 

Thanks for your reply. Now I am trying to get more information about reason of the replacement but I did not get it yet. But when I bought the car,The Honda dealer just told me that the engine is very reliable and they even did not insist on asking me to buy the warranty. But I still doubt about that. Since I am a freshman in Honda Accord engine. I do not know how serious the consequence is going to be after those replacements. Is there a risk that I have to rebuild the engine someday?

if the cylinder heads and "short block" were replaced that refers to the whole engine being replaced. as long as it has gotten you to 30,000 miles w/o trouble im sure its fine. could have been a manufacturers defect in the motor. 1700 it too early for oil trouble unless something didnt seat right or the owner got it changed and the dealer forgot to put oil back in after draining it..doh! yes that has happened to people i know.

I would still consult the dealer about it, they will probably tell you. Jim is absolutely right though a buyers inspection with a trusted mechanic is a good idea.

I did not realize to ask for the reason for the replacement when I bought this car. I checked it on google, there are ussually two reasons for the mentioned replacement: (1) low gas milage; (2) noise in the original engine. Then the 1st owner could ask the dealer to replace it since it is still in bumper-to-bumper warranty (1700 miles in 2007). So now the replacement seems to be a very serious problem on this car. Since I have bought the car, now I have to worry about the reliability of this car. Since you guys are so professional in cars, according to your knowledge in Honda, how reliable is this kind of car?

 

They might as well have said the long block was replaced. The short block and head is what make up the long block. There are several reasons why the motor was replaced at such low miles, as listed above by other members. It is always a good idea to get a warranty, so that if something does go wrong, its not all on you. The car should be as reliable as any other 07 honda accord, but that all really depends on the previous owner, and how they took care of it. Its always a good idea to get a used car checked out by a reputable mechanic before you buy it, that way, if something was wrong with it, you would know before you spent your hard earned money.
