Default Seafoam on high mileage motor

Hey all,

I posted before about some problems my car was having. Found a worn out valve cover gasket and fried wire running to the starter. All is well and moving on to a quick question about seafoam.

Is there any limit on mileage for seafoam? What I mean is after a certain number of miles is seafoam going to cause damage to a motor or still work fine? My car has 151k as of yesterday on it. Since the previous owner really neglected it I am trying to get it back into decent shape.

Thanks for any info I receive.

I would use a good oil after disassembly if the upper half. good chance your egr is full of poo, but IMO seafoam is better than some of the other cleaners but its still a gamble if you are going to help or hurt the situation. nothing replaces a good hand cleaning and re-assembly.

if you have high miles on your engine DO NOT USE SEA FOAM IN THE CRANK CASE. It's fine to run it in the gas and to clean the intake via break booster.
Why I'm telling you not to use it in the crank case is....when you have a old engine the small amount of "sludge" that you have it was is protecting your seals from blowing out. If you strip all the gunk off the seals they will start to fail...and quick. Now if it's a new engine with say 30-60k on the clock then I would use it in the crank case every 3rd oil change to keep the inside clean.

G22cd5 is correct. That's the same reason alot of techs will not do a transmission flush on an old transmission that hasn't had fluid change in a long time
