Spark Plug Wires
So I'm doing some investigation. NGK wires make the engine look pretty and all but do they make a difference in performance and MPGs?
I have stock wires right now. I haven't experimented with other wires cuz I don't have the money. But I know that sometimes OEM parts are made just so the company can save money during mass production and not for real performance.
I want to see what you guys have under the hood and how you like them.

Stock wires and NGK are both good quality, but I don't think there is a difference in performance. I replaced the my stock wires with NGK a while back and they are.. GOOD!
On the other end, cheap, no name wires, might not be the right length or the boots and clamps might not be so durable.
Recently I like to go OEM if the price permits, that way I know that everything is going to be the right length and fit the clamps on the engine. I don't want to take the chance and buy parts, then futz around getting them to fit right.

Ok. I've been looking at the NGKs. I read that they actually made them specially for Honda. So I'm liking what I see about the wires. But I've also looked up whether or not they make a difference in performance. Some say they do, some say they don't. I think I'll get them.
Anyone else have any reviews?

I doubt you will see any real perfomance gain from any wire. About the only difference in them will be the quality. Not only in fit but in longevity. That is where the NGK's stand out - IMO - they have a good fit and will last a long time.
Changing wires won't do anything for performance unless your existing wires are going bad and shorting out, causing misfiring.
Honda factory wires seem to last forever, so they aren't a bad choice either. NGK are good wires too.

Ok. Thanks. I've been looking around on this subject a lot and I usually see that logic. But every little bit helps so if I can find an area to increase performance and efficiency inexpensively then Ill take it. I'm looking for other small projects for my car...
I switched my plug wires from factory to the NGK's and also my plugs after my car failed emissions. Once replaced the car passed easily. The NGK's are a great quality wire and I do recommend them.
Yes, that's a perfect example of replacing plugs and wires which are old & degraded. I'd say you restored the original performance, didn't increase beyond that.
Still, Robinson's 1997 is 15-years old. So normal tune-up stuff needs to be brought up to date if it's been neglected. If there's any evidence of your plug wires having worn insulation, etc, then certainly go ahead & replace them.
