Default square peg in a round hole

Alright, heres an interesting one for you guys and girls, i've got an 89 Honda Accord DX with the A20A1 carbureted. Fuel pump was suspected dead so i figured, easy replacement, i go down to autozone to pick up the "OE replacement". Once i pulled out the old pump from the tank, it was clear there was a huge difference. The pump i pulled out is approximately double the thickness of the "OE replacement". ALSO, the new pump doesnt have a connector, its just two bolts or posts that come out of the pump that im to use these eye hook style wire connectors on. Wouldnt that mean that it can easily ignite the fuel in the tank upon any spark?

Also, the old pump is directly wired to the assembly, theres no disconnections anywhere. It goes from the connector on the outer side of the assembly with a wire all the way to the pump and sealed into the pump.

Check with the auto parts store...I think they gave you the wrong pump.

agreed....take the old pump back with you as a reference to get the correct one. if all else fails. get a good one from a part out or pick and pull.

well as weird as it sounds...thats a mitsubishi branded pump...theres a small mitsubishi logo stamped into the plastic on top of the pump itself. So i just decided to modify that sending unit since someone modified it before me, there were small tool marks on the clamp. Works, but im back to square one with my issue...i'll create a new thread.

I would go and swap the pump out be4 you mess with enough the parts store won’t take it back. Your better off with eh right pump vs. modifying the one you have now.
