Question Sticky throttle and transmission noise

I have a carb'd 88 Accord LX and it runs great except for the throttle sticks when it warms up and the transmission makes a clunking noise sometimes when shifting. As for the throttle I have put white lightning on it and that is supposed to withstand heat and stay on better than WD40. If I'm cruising through town it sticks very bad and the car runs about 190 to 200 degrees when I'm cruising. When I'm just driving from point A to point B it doesn't stick as bad. I'm thinking the cable is bad but I'm not for sure. And for the transmission it only clunks when I let off the gas and it goes from 3rd to 2nd or sometimes 2nd to 1st. It doesn't shift softly like the newer cars but I think it does that cause its an 88 but not for sure. Any thoughts on any of these would be very appreciated.

Thank you.

Maybe the cable is frayed inside the sheath. Probably have to get a new cable.
