it's fine to have it. If you are not getting a tunable ecu and getting a tune after you install your parts I would recommend KEEPING your cat. B/c your cat give you the back pressure you need to keep your a/f ratio from running really rich. I always recommend getting a chipped ecu and a tune after you install performance parts.

I don't think our ECU is tunable, unless you get an OBDI ECU like a P28 or something like that. With my exhaust the car does run richer than before.

If he swaps to an OBDI ECU, he may have problem getting it inspection/emission correct ?

yes correct. But he is adding a intake and exhaust. He is going to fail anyways...unless he paid HIGH dollar for the C.A.R.B rating parts.

Up here, i can get my car to pass inspection with my set up with a silencer as long as the check engine light isn't on.

power to ya. It's hard to pass with parts added. Look at all the Cali guys they have a hard time. My buddy has a build h22 and he can't pass the test with his h22 so when it comes time he swapped his stock f22a back in. It's a PITA but he can still drive his build engine on the street.
