Default Suggestion to replace 99 5-spd Transmission (casing)

1999 2-Dr / LX / 2.3L MT / 237k miles

Hi, sorry if this is the wrong place to post this - it's my first time posting.

I've got my transmission removed from the engine and need to replace either the entire thing or just the casing. The casing is pretty cracked up from recently bottoming out, but the inner workings of the transmission are in excellent condition.

I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on what I should do, as I'm trying to save money, but I also don't want to end up with a poor replacement, as I still want to be able to drive hard, especially after putting in the work/money. I'd prefer to just replace the casing, but I'm not sure if this is practical. Does anyone know how easy this might be to do or even to find a casing? Does anyone have any experience with ordering from sites such as autopartsfair.com? They're about $650 from junkyards with around 130k miles and come with 1-yr warranty.

Thanks for your help!

With a broken case I'd be inclined to replace the trans. Especially when you said it was hit from bottoming out. That hit can damage some bearings, etc.

Harvest some spare-parts from the old one, after you swap the new one in?
